Jenner, ‘Christian Porn,’ and praying while driving

in IRRATIONAL ROUNDUP by

Today, TheWayfellow.com brings you our first installment of the IRRATIONAL ROUNDUP, a quick look at some mind-numbingly illogical ‘religious’ headlines from around the world. Bruce ‘Caitlyn’ Jenner is heeding God’s word by pretending to be a woman Leading off this week’s insanity, writer Lily Burana at Religion News Service says “Caitlyn” Jenner is “doing the Lord’s work” by “showing her [sic] true self” on a new television show. In one of the most absurd paragraphs you’ll ever read, Burana writes, “Caitlyn Jenner, Olympic athlete turned world-class glamour girl, took the planet by storm in April when she sat down for an interview with Diane Sawyer and announced her ongoing transition from male to female.” There are so many things wrong with…

Abortionist compares Planned Parenthood’s Deborah Nucatola to Jesus

in POLITICS by

Undercover videos of Planned Parenthood officials discussing the sale of aborted baby parts have shocked the country in the last few days. One can barely stomach the thought of what these abortion doctors do to human beings in and out of the womb, much less eat dinner while discussing it. One abortion doctor, however, thinks Deborah Nucatola, subject in one of the videos, is worthy to be compared to Jesus. READ FULL ARTICLE

BROTHERHOODNEWS.COM – “On June 26, 2015, in the Obergefell vs. Hodges case, the United States Supreme Court ruled that same-sex marriages were a constitutional right. Eighteen days later, on July 14, our church secretary was visibly shaken when I came in the office. She had just ended a call with a lesbian asking if our church building would be available in October for their ceremony.” READ FULL ARTICLE

College applications rejected due to faith in God

in RELIGION by

Looking out across the cultural landscape of America, we see attempts to remove God from the public eye. When we see such things, we usually sigh and whisper to ourselves, “What next?” Apparently, “what’s next” is total discrimination against people who express faith in God. This article by the American Center for Law and Justice reveals two troubling cases of outright discrimination. READ FULL ARTICLE

‘POPE CONVERTS TO ISLAM’
…or, How To Avoid Falling for Fake News Headlines

in EDITORIAL by

Abraham Lincoln once said, “Don’t believe everything you read on the internet.” Being a fan of Lincoln quotes, I think we should trust this one! Some of the more outrageous fake news headlines of recent times: “Pope re-writes Ten Commandments” “North Korea lands first man on the sun.” “Twitter for sale” Sometimes brethren fall for these fake news headlines, and share the stories on their social media accounts. Subsequently, we look a little silly when it is revealed as a hoax. How can Christians identify fake news stories? One writer at Christianity Today gives five tips for avoiding such fake news. I agree with his assessment in general, but I don’t think Snopes.com is always to be trusted. Regardless, read for…

The evil origins of Planned Parenthood

in POLITICS by

From Joseph Parker, American Family Association: “The revelation this week of a video that implicates Planned Parenthood in the selling of baby body parts is chilling.  It points to practices and actions that are hard to imagine that anyone would actually do to a human being.   Yet, tragically, for Planned Parenthood, this kind of activity is nothing new.  Planned Parenthood is simply a very wicked and evil organization.   It’s who they are and who they have been from the beginning.” READ FULL ARTICLE

Hidden Camera: Planned Parenthood official discusses selling baby body parts

in POLITICS by

In one of the most horrifying videos I’ve ever seen, a national leader of Planned Parenthood is caught on hidden camera discussing the harvesting and sale of body parts from babies procured via abortion procedures. Friends, if you haven’t already rejected wholesale the practice of abortion, watch this video. I must warn you, however: It is very disturbing to watch this abortion doctor casually discussing different ways to kill the babies in order to save the desired body part for sale, all the while sipping wine and eating dinner. School prayer battle brings contempt charge

in RELIGION by

There is an ongoing battle over school prayer in the Rankin County School District in Mississippi. On Monday a federal judge found the district in contempt of court, and levied a fine of $7,500.  The school district first got into trouble in 2013 when a student sued over having to attend a school assembly that “promoted Christianity” via a school prayer. The suit was filed with the aid of the American Humanist Association. According to the Clarion-Ledger, “U.S. District Court Judge Carlton Reeves said in last week’s ruling that the district has since violated the policy it adopted to ensure its schools conformed with the First Amendment by holding an awards ceremony where a Christian reverend delivered a prayer and again when it assisted Gideons…

Body of abducted Christian Lavinda Counce found

in RELIGION by

The body of Lavinda Counce, 90, was found Sunday at the edge of a corn field by a volunteer searcher. Counce had been missing since July 3, when she was abducted from her home. She was a Christian who worshiped with the church of Christ in Bay, Ark. Residents and church members there are still struggling to understand who may have done this and why. Ted Knight, an evangelist originally from Bay, knew her well and posted a wonderful tribute to her on his Facebook page. Here is an excerpt from his post: “The only one to gain from this despicable ordeal is Lavinda Counce who now is at rest which is indescribable. You see, this terrorist or terrorists took her earthly…

Thomas Jefferson advocated ‘dismemberment’ as punishment for homosexuality

in POLITICS by

There is no doubt that attitudes in America toward the practice of homosexuality have changed over the years. Even 20 years ago, homosexuals more or less kept their “sexual preference” to themselves and didn’t make it a political issue. Given this tidal wave of social change, the church of Christ has had to stay steadfast in its biblical stand on morality. Today, lawmakers are scrambling to create laws making homosexual behavior “normal” and accepted. But did you know that the “founding fathers” of our nation saw the practice of homosexuality as a crime? In this article at Apologetics Press, Dave Miller shows that George Washington considered homosexuality abhorrent, and Thomas Jefferson once advocated for death by dismemberment for those guilty of…

For Churches That Won’t Perform Same-Sex Weddings, Insurance Begins to Look Iffy

in RELIGION by

In the aftermath of Obergefell v. Hodges, pastors and church members are experiencing a wave of anxiety over what many of them deem the “nightmare scenario”: lawsuits or government action designed to force them to perform or recognize same-sex marriages. While there are — so far — no meaningful judicial precedents that would permit such dramatic interference with churches’ core First Amendment rights, lawsuits challenging church liberties are inevitable. Indeed, the Iowa Civil Rights Commission has declared that prohibitions against discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity “sometimes” apply to churches and has stated that a “church service open to the public” is not a “bona fide religious purpose” that would limit application of the law. In…

Australia’s Bishops Reaffirm Catholic Marriage – and Get Reported to Government

in RELIGION by

In a recent pastoral letter on marriage, Australia’s Catholic bishops reaffirmed Catholic teaching. And one of the bishops has countered a leading same-sex marriage activist who said the pastoral letter should be reported to the Tasmanian government for illegal bias. “The Catholic Church in Tasmania is exercising its right to freedom of opinion, just as opponents to the Church’s views on marriage are also exercising their rights,” Archbishop Julian Porteous of Hobart said, according to the Catholic Leader newspaper. His comments concern “Don’t Mess with Marriage,” a pastoral letter in booklet form the Australian bishops’ conference released May 28. He said the booklet “explains the meaning of marriage enshrined in our laws from a religious perspective.” Read Full Article

Gay Teacher Promotes Homosexuality to Little 3rd Graders, Says He Didn’t Care What Parents Thought

in WORLD by

A North Carolina elementary school teacher has resigned after his decision to read a gay-themed children’s book to his third-grade class led to controversy in the small town of Efland. Omar Currie said he read his students the book “King and King,” a fairy tale about two princes having a “love” encounter, after he perceived negative gay stereotyping in his class. Currie said that he was inspired to teach the little kids about two men “hooking up” because a boy in his class acted a little feminine. Read Full Article

Imperial Roman legionary camp uncovered near Megiddo

in WORLD by

The remains of an imperial Roman legionary camp — the only one of its kind ever to be excavated in Israel or in the entirety of the Eastern Empire from the second and third centuries CE — have come to light at a dig near Megiddo, archaeologists said this week. Legio, a Roman site situated next to Tel Megiddo in northern Israel, served as the headquarters of the Sixth Legion Ferrata — the Ironclad — in the years following the Jewish Revolt, and would have helped keep order in the Galilee during the Bar Kochba Revolt in 132-135 CE.
